Makoto Shinkai makes me sad

Before I start my new reviews I just have to say that upon revisiting 5 Centimeters per Second and a couple other of Makoto Shinkai's shorts, I can confidently say he's the only director/ writer to make me feel sad after watchign an anime. Thats right, I apperently have that emotion. That being said he has a really nice voice, I thought he did an excellent job voicing the cat in his 5 minute short "She and Her Cat". His voice just seemed so content, it made me laugh that it was a cat talking.

What What What!!!!! Geneon gone!?!?!

So I just read this and decided to put off any reviews for this truely depressing announcement. Geneon is leaving america!!! In an article by animenation, they announced that after september of 2007 they would no longer be selling anime in america. Now I've been watching this company put out some strong titles since they got started, when Pioneer merged, and I couldn't even imagine that they would be going out of business in the US. I went and checked on their site and, wouldn't you know it, there are no titles after october 7th of 2007! These being the people to put out Tenjou Tenge (whihc I guess I'm one of the few who like), Samurai Seven, Elemental Gelade, Ergo Proxy, Paradise Kiss, Saiyuki (there are many titles), along with rereleases of older titles, and well known popular titles like Black Lagoon, and Hellsing Ultimate (along with the original too). Plus being one of the few companies to have a large music section I didn't think it was likely. The most enigmatic part of this whole puzzle is that while I was at the Otakon I went to a panel/trailer showing of some of thier new titles. During the Q&A they did't even hint on leaving the business, they made it sound like they had plans for the pretty distant future in terms of titles and what they wanted to do with the company. Overall I guess I'm just a bit shocked that this woulod happen so suddenly, but who knows what could happen to them. the thing I'm most concedrned about is how the third Hellsing Ultimate is being released if they're not doing it? Hopefully it'll have the same voice cast and direction, but who knows.

Best Alliteration in Dialogue

I know its not an anime, but it is a comic. This is the longest and greatest line alliteration in dialogue I think Ive ever heard. I just saw it for the first time on sunday, and boy-howdy have I been missing out.

Gun Buster?

After many years of watching crazy space animes, Ive met my match. Honestly what's up with Gunbuster, I have no idea how to even begin to review it, in fact I dont think any human could. You'd need to get one of those giant space monsters that somehow use the sun as a birthpplace to review this. Seriously, the last episode of Evangelion made more sense than this anime. Maybe if you gave me 12000 years to think of a way to explain this thing, I might be able to get a rough outline together. I kid you not, Fooly Cooly had a more coherent story and plot than this did. In fact so did evanelion. Gainax are masters at condencing story, but this is just ridiculous, where in God's name did Noriko find out about Gunbuster in like episode 3 or 4? When did half the story line occur? Why does she care so much about "Smisu"? Can anyone answer any questions relating to this anime, because I sure can't. Its probabaly all related and explained in Gunbuster 2, but do i even want to try to comprehend the explanations they'll give? That ll being said it was a good anime and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to see classic Gainax at work. But it's stll one of the craziest things I've ever watched. And that's saying something

The First Heist

OK So let me start off by saying how much I love Lupin. I love Lupin as much as my counterpart at 2-D loves Ghost in the Shell. That being said, this box set was one of the best gifts I've got all year.

The box set is actually a group of never before released Lupin the Third TV movies. Truthfully they've never been released before probably becuase they just weren't up to par with other movies such as Castle of Cagliostro. But don't let that get you down, any Lupin fan can find something to like by watching these movies.

Now the movies have nothing to do with one another and are all done by different directs in different generations. You can kind of tell when thier made by the artwork, the artwork is never that bad, I mean compared to the series everything looks great, but don't explect it to look like Ghost in the Shell. All the directors gave thier different takes on what a Lupin movie should be like, the funny thing is that none of them made drastically different changes to what a Lupin movie is, the only noticable change from movie to movie was Zenigata. His personallity changes from a cool cop to a guy thats obsessed with Ramen depending which one you watch. Because it's brought to us from our frineds oiver at Geneon all th4e voice work is the same. Not to mention the translation is good, so if you aren't in the mood for reading subtitles just watch the English version, you won't be disappionted.

The Music isn't anything special but it's not bad either. The music was always appriopriate for the scene and never took away from the moment. I honestly can't remember any like I can from Castle of Cagliostro, but it added to the progression of the movie. Any Lupin fan understands that the show or movies don't have to make sense, and for the most part they don't, their just fun to watch. So in terms of plot, you have to be ready for a plot that may be a bit shallow, campy humor, and Lupin doing things that defy the laws of nature to sickening degrees. But what can you expect, he's the worlds greatest theif.

All in all I really liked these movies, some were better than others but all were worth watching. I am a Lupin fan so I'm a little pre disposed to talk about how cool Lupin is, but I think any anime fan can sit back and enjoy watching Anime's biggest and most famous character in some crazy movies. one thing I did relize when I watched these is that i can be sure of two things in life, not "death and taxes" but that even after I die, Lupin will never be caught and he'll never be killed.
